Ireland spun out by Bangladesh

THE Irish Women cricketers World Cup dream ended in steamy Dhaka yesterday after a 95 runs defeat to host nation Bangladesh.

It was a disappointing end to a qualifying competition that promised much but now sees Ireland miss out on a second successive World Cup.

Ireland recalled Amy Kenealy and the Leinster player took the only two wickets to fall to a bowler. A good display in the field secured five run outs, but Bangladesh battled to 209-7 off their 50 overs. Claire Shillington's nightmare tournament continued, with a first ball dismissal to add to two other ducks.

Cecilia Joyce (44) and Jill Whelan (20) added 68 for the second wicket, but when they were parted wickets fell regularly and only Laura Delany (11) and Kim Garth (10no) showed any resistance.

Ireland were all out for 114, with 16-year-old off-spinner Khadiza-Tul Kubra taking 6-32.
