Bangladesh take fifth place ahead of Ireland

In the host's first-ever one-day international match, Bangladesh took on Ireland at BKSP 2 and Salma Khatun's side posted a large total of 210.

Suktara Rahaman and Sharmin Supta set the hosts on their way, the duo putting on 113 in their opening partnership before Supta departed when she fell short of her crease and Jill Whelan whipped the stumps off.

After a stumble by the middle order, Lata Mondol and Rumana Ahmed added more to the total to give Ireland a tough target to chase down. Whelan proved the pick of the Irish attack taking 3-32 and claiming two run-outs, but Ireland's batters were not so fortunate.

Cecelia Joyce opened the batting alongside Melissa Scott-Hayward and the elder of the Joyce twins looked set to give Ireland the start it needed, scoring 42 before she was clean bowled by the in-form Rumana.

Joyce's departure saw the collapse of the Irish batting line-up which had difficulty against Salma and Rumana's off and leg-spin respectively. Ireland looked set to last the full 50 overs as Mary Waldron ground out a 55-ball 25 runs and Laura Cullen faced 41-balls to make just nine, but some swift fielding ensured Bangladesh its first ODI victory and on home turf.

Ireland has now slipped to 10th in the Reliance ICC Women's ODI Team Rankings while Bangladesh enters the rankings for the first time in ninth.
