Ireland Women lose thriller against Bangladesh

Elena Tice celebrates a run out

It was meant to be a day of celebration as Clare Shillington became the first Irish woman to reach the 100 cap milestone but ultimately ended in despair as Bangladesh scrambled a four wicket win from the penultimate delivery of the game.

Shillington had the consolation of top scoring with 34 as Ireland struggled to accelerate the scoring eventually finishing on 92 for 4.

In total only six boundaries were hit in the entire inngs - Shillington contributing three of those. Isobel Joyce (18), Kim Garth (15*), and Laura Delany (11*) all reached double figures.

Rumana Ahmed (1-10), Salma Khatun (1-11), and Jahanara Alam (1-12) all kept a tight grip on the Irish scoring.

In reply, Bangladesh lost both openers early before Salma Khtaun (41) and Lata Mondal (29) got the Tigresses right back on track with a 3rd wicket partnership of 66.

Elena Tice took 3 for 14 to get Ireland right back into contention but Farzana Haque Pinky held her nerve to secure the four wicket win much to the jubilation of her team mates who invaded the pitch as the winning run was secured.
