Eimear Richardson marked her return to Irish colours with a brilliant all-round display to help Ireland beat The Netherlands by 79 runs in their opening game of the Quadrangular Series in Holland.

Batting first The Girls in Green got off to a quick start thanks to Gaby Lewis, who hit a breezy 26 from 16 balls (3 fours, 1 six) before being pegged back by the hosts.

47 for 1 became 63 for 4 and the contest was evenly balanced when Richardson joined the fray.

She then took the contest away from the hosts, hitting 11 boundaries on her way to an unbeaten 63 from just 41 balls - her fourth half century for Ireland.

The 32 year-old shared a fifth wicket stand of 76 in 8 overs with Leah Paul (26), while Mary Waldron chipped in with 14 as Ireland posted an impressive 169 for 5.

The Dutch reply never gained any sort of momentum, with the disciplined Irish attack keeping a tight rein on them throughout.

Babette De Leede scored a run-a-ball half century, but her team stuttered to 90 for 7.

There were two wickets apiece for Celeste Raack (2-11), Eimear Richardson (2-13) and Orla Prendergast (2-15).

The Irish are back in action on Friday when they face Thailand.
