Ireland Women's International Matches
Ireland lost to New Zealand by 8 wickets
ODI, Malahide, 3 July 2002
Scorecard
Adèle Spence

The second game was in Malahide, home to seven of the fourteen strong squad. Perhaps this factor contributed somewhat to what turned out to be the best Irish performance of the New Zealanders' tour. On batting first, Ireland's top order performed their task admirably, with Caitriona Beggs scoring an aggressive 56 on her home ground, followed by stalwart Miriam Grealey contributing a solid 35. Unfortunately the middle to late order had a complete collapse, and on a day when the New Zealand coach described his team's performance as atrocious, Ireland failed to capitalize fully on this, with only 25 runs being scored between batswomen 6-11.

This must have been disappointing to those that had got the team off to such a good start and did so well in putting up an admirable 177 runs to defend. Once again, Rebecca Rolls was too good for the Irish bowlers and before being out after scoring 86, she had made sure that the victory was a comprehensive one. Catherine O'Neill was best of the Irish bowlers that day with 2 for 43.
