The second limited overs match over these ill-fated three days lasted only 22 overs with MCC batting. The start was at 10.00 a.m. There was a two-and-a-half hour delay for rain at 11.20 a.m. during which lunch was taken. Five more overs were bowled in what had now become a match of 28 overs per side. This gave Ireland a great advantage in a non Duckworth/Lewis situation. However only five more overs could be bowled before more rain caused the match to be abandoned. The match was awarded Cap status, the first such with as little as a scheduled 40 overs per side.

Butler had an ankle injury so McCoubrey, who had been 12th man in the first match, came in for his second cap. MCC, who travelled with only 11, were unchanged. At 10.00 a.m. it was sunny but there had been rain in the night. MCC again won the toss and again chose to bat. Warke and Grey started to Cooke and McCoubrey. The first wicket fell in the fifth over. The score was six of which three were wides. Cooke brought one back at Grey who snicked it to Brophy. Sedgebeer came in and 24 runs came in seven overs.

Once again Mooney was the partnership breaker and once again he did it in his first over. Its last ball bowled Sedgebeer who was pushing to leg. 30-2-12. Mohammed joined Warke. Gillespie came on and he and Mooney bowled four wides in three overs. 20 runs came in four overs with 50 up after 15 overs. Nine balls later at 56 for two the rain came and the delay was 150 minutes.

Lunch was taken and the match reduced to 28 overs per side. However only 5.3 more overs could be bowled before more rain made conditions impossible. MCC in these 5.3 overs scored 40 runs and three wickets fell. Mooney had to complete an over after the break and Warke ran himself out off the last ball. He cut to Gillespie at cover, set off, was rightly sent back but could not beat Gillespie's throw to Brophy.

Wrigglesworth joined Mohammed and they put on 26 in 19 balls. Dwyer bowled two overs for 17 including six by Mohammed while Wrigglesworth scored off every ball he faced. McCallan came on for Mooney for the 19th over and in his second over he had Mohammed caught by Cooke at Long-off. 82-4-22.

Williams came in and McCoubrey replaced Dwyer whose two overs cost an uncharacteristic 21. The change worked. Wrigglesworth swung wildly at the last ball and was bowled. Then the rains came and the Match was abandoned after 22 Overs. In the five overs bowled since the reduction of the match from 40 overs per team to 28 MCC scored 40 runs, Dwyer's second over yielding 10, being the most expensive.
